AISI 316 stainless steel is corrosion resistant.

However, when used as anchor chain, special factors occur that cause AISI316 chain to rust anyway. Contact with other steels or metals (in the hawse, chain rollers or chain sprocket). Scuffing on the bottom and by scuffing in the surface of the chain.

The advantages of anchor chains made of stainless steel AISI316 are the special gauge durability , the greater mobility in the anchor box, the easier running of the chain. Moreover, stainless steel chains rust only on the surface, i.e. the strength of the chain is maintained.
